ANAHEIM, Calif., May 22, 2018 – CyberX, the IIoT and industrial control system (ICS) security company, today unveiled its new “ICS Asset Visibility & Threat Monitoring” app for the Palo Alto Networks® (NYSE: PANW) Application Framework.
As digitalization and IIoT drive increased connectivity between IT and Operational Technology (OT) networks, the risk of targeted attacks and destructive malware — such as TRITON and NotPetya — has dramatically increased. These cyber-physical incidents can result in costly production downtime, catastrophic safety failures, environmental damage, and theft of corporate IP.
The new app utilizes the prevention infrastructure and information from the sensors that customers already have in place with the Palo Alto Networks Security Operating Platform — which, combined with CyberX’s proprietary, ICS-aware asset profiling, behavioral analytics, and threat intelligence — provides granular visibility into all OT assets and communication patterns between them, enabling network defenders to rapidly detect and disrupt attacks on critical infrastructure sectors including energy & utilities, oil & gas, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and manufacturing.
Consuming cybersecurity innovations has become an arduous process. Organizations waste time deploying new sensors every time they want to collect a new piece of data and managing point products rather than improving security controls to stay ahead of attackers. The Palo Alto Networks Application Framework makes it easy to add new security capabilities quickly and efficiently. The framework extends the capabilities of the Palo Alto Networks Security Operating Platform, with a suite of APIs that developers can use to connect innovative apps with rich data, threat intelligence and enforcement points. Organizations gain immediate security value from apps developed by an open ecosystem of trusted innovators.
Purpose-built for OT, the CyberX platform incorporates a deep embedded understanding of ICS/SCADA/BMS applications, protocols, and vulnerabilities.
The new CyberX app for the Palo Alto Networks Application Framework will auto-discover and immediately classify all OT devices based on network traffic analysis — without rules, specialized skills, or prior knowledge of the environment — enabling security teams to easily implement fine-grained policies to prevent malicious or unauthorized activities; accelerate detection and investigation of targeted ICS attacks via deep forensic, threat hunting, and ICS threat modeling capabilities; identify vulnerable or compromised OT devices, so they can be rapidly remediated or isolated; and alert on suspicious or risky behaviors such as PLC programming changes and network scanning.
Additionally, the CyberX platform has been integrated with the Palo Alto Networks Security Operating Platform to support automated response and enforcement (for example, via the ruggedized PA-220R firewall).
- “Palo Alto Networks shares our goal of protecting the global critical infrastructure upon which we all depend every day. CyberX’s integration with the Palo Alto Networks Application Framework enables our joint customers to gain new visibility into their OT networks — and strengthen their OT security posture — simply by leveraging the Palo Alto Networks Security Operating Platform they already own and operate. With the new “ICS Asset Visibility & Threat Monitoring” app from CyberX, customers will reduce ICS risk via fine-grained, ICS-aware policies combined with continuous ICS vulnerability management and threat monitoring.” – Buck Watia, VP of Alliances & Business Development, CyberX
- “We are delighted to welcome CyberX to the Palo Alto Networks Application Framework developer community. The framework provides our customers with superior security through cloud-based apps developed by innovative security providers, large and small. Together, we are fueling innovation in the cybersecurity market with apps that are built rapidly, engineered on a common framework, and deliver unique value while solving our customers’ toughest security challenges.” – Lee Klarich, chief product officer, Palo Alto Networks
- CyberX’s ICS Threat Monitoring App for the Palo Alto Networks Application Framework will be available worldwide in 90 days.
- The Palo Alto Networks Application Framework is targeted for availability in August 2018 and will be available worldwide to customers who have purchased either Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls or Traps advanced endpoint protection and the Logging Service subscription.
